Smart Cities : Microbit coding

Microbit coding for smart cities

About this Event

As the world changes rapidly around us, how can the foot print of information we leave behind impact on the way new products, services and cities are designed?

Accessing data sets on transport usage, library attendance or even rainfall can help us design and create new ways to solve old problems and in this hands on focus session, we'll explore the concept of smart cities through coding.

No experience in coding is necessary - all welcome.

Facilitator: Andy @Southend Tech

Southend Tech collaborates across sectors running Raspberry Jam tech festivals, hackathons, coding, makerspace and Smart City events in Southend and Essex using the Raspberry Pi computer, BBC MicroBit, cloud computing, artificial intelligence, IoT, robotics, and lots of other fun tech and electronics to learn and create solutions.

In March 2019, they ran a large Smart City tech festival in partnership with Southend Borough Council who have started the process to become a Smart City and have been involved in co creating and planning.

In this free event, we'll hear about their activities before exploring concepts using simple Microbit coding, sensors and other hardware.

The Microbit has been designed for absolute beginners to learn how to code, so no experience in coding is necessary - Javascript and Python editors are also available.
